What to expect at Noosa Sports Chiropractic
At Noosa Sports Chiropractic, we work differently from most traditional chiropractic practices.
It is important to note that if you book your first appointment expecting a traditional chiropractic adjustment, with lots of cracking, stretching, and soft tissue therapy, you will be disappointed. At Noosa Sports Chiropractic, we do not use many of the traditional chiropractic techniques you might be familiar with.
If you are seeking a traditional chiropractor, please reach out and we will happily refer you to another local practitioner who can provide these services for you.
But if you are open-minded and looking for a fresh approach that addresses the root cause of your injuries and health issues you will be pleasantly surprised. Many of our patients come to us after trying many traditional approaches with either limited or short-term results.
YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT
Once you book your appointment online, you will receive an email with some forms to fill out. These forms help us have a clear picture as to what you need help with and your goals.
In your first appointment, Dr Jake Currie will conduct a comprehensive neuro assessment which includes your visual system, vestibular system (balance), primitive reflexes, and cranial nerves. We will also do some functional assessments of your muscular system to see which muscles are “turning on” and which muscles are not firing correctly. Jake will assess your mobility and posture and help you identify any movement deficits that are causing your pain or sporting performance.
Our goal is to find the root cause of your pain or injuries. We do not want to treat the symptoms, but we want to help you address the cause. This can help you have more permanent results instead of coming back every month or so with the same injury.
Once we have a clear picture of your health and the overall function of your body and nervous system Jake will explain what he has found in a simple-to-understand way that is free of medical jargon.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Our goal is to help you get back to your best as fast as possible with the least amount of appointments necessary. We call this the Fast-Track Recovery. You will never be locked into lengthy care plans or be required to come back more than you need to.
Once Jake has a clear picture of your injury and overall health status, he will give you personalised recommendations. These recommendations include how many appointments you will need to get back to your best. The number of appointments required is going to be based on your injury, how long you have had it, and typical outcomes.
The vast majority of our patients notice great improvements after just the first session.
TREATMENT
Here is where we really differ. Jake uses a combination of therapies to help you move better and feel better. Most notably a technique called Square 1 System which is what we call a “brain first approach”. Square 1 is a form of functional neurology. This technique uses a lot of muscle testing to identify blocks in your nervous system. The treatment itself uses particular eye movements and joint positions to help your nervous system clear any blocks.
The goal is to help your brain better coordinate your muscles and joints. Allowing for improved mobility and reduced pain.
You can check out the Square 1 System Instagram page here which shows lots of before and afters. Jake is one of a handful of practitioners using this technique in Australia.
Jake also uses a technique called Sacro-Occipital-Technique or SOT. This is a technique that assesses the function of your pelvis and cranial system.
No two treatments are the same.
Many people who have been to more traditional chiropractors, or physiotherapists find the treatment approach unique, or even “weird”, but they love the immediate changes they see and feel in their body and brain. Our patients are usually very surprised at how quickly pain and mobility can improve without big manipulations or massage-style techniques.
REASSESSMENT
Once you have gone through a series of appointments, Jake will reassess your brain, nervous system, mobility, posture, and injury.
We want to ensure that you are improving as expected. After this reassessment, we will either close your case if you are doing well or give you the option of having a periodic maintenance appointment to prevent your issue from returning. How you proceed is entirely dependent on your goals and lifestyle.
Jakes's areas of interest:
Persistent injuries or chronic pain patterns: does your pain come back again and again even after multiple treatments?
Post-concussion syndrome (PCS): are you struggling with dizziness, balance issues, visual fatigue, neck pain or anxiety following a concussion or head knock?
Sensory Issues: conditions like ADHD or sensory issues have links with retained primitive reflexes, visual issues, and vestibular or balance issues. Jake loves helping adults and children struggling with these issues.
Anxiety: anxiety can have many psychological origins but you may find your symptoms are made worse if your nervous system is out of balance or “stuck” in a fight-flight state known as Sympathetic Dominance.
Mobility Issues: do you find that you have impaired mobility or flexibility in various joints? Often this can be traced back to brain and nervous system imbalances rather than tight muscles.
What you won’t get at Noosa Sports Chiropractic
Short appointment times: all our standard appointments are 30mins minimum. We take a thorough approach for every patient.
Lengthy care plans. Jake’s goal is to help you feel better in the least amount of appointments possible. We do not want to see you forever. You will never be sold into long-term care plans that have you coming back again and again.
Cookie Cutter Treatments: everyone is unique, every session is unique. You will be treated differently every visit as your body changes and improves.
Painful or uncomfortable adjustments: the treatments used at Noosa Sports Chiropractic are very gentle yet powerful. Great for people who don’t respond well to, or don’t like, big cracking adjustments.
Copious amounts of complicated rehab exercises: firstly, you probably wouldn’t do them if we prescribed these to you, right? And secondly, what we find is that when we get your nervous system functioning better muscles start firing correctly without stretching or strengthening exercises.
“Assessment Only" first appointments: in your first appointment you will almost certainly receive treatment unless you are not a suitable candidate for the work, or you need to be referred out.
